Walk & Wades

Home Book Your Trip Walk & Wades

Besides the float trips on the Bow River, there are a number of smaller rivers Bow River Hookers provides guided trips on.

Located southwest of Calgary, 1 1⁄2 hours are some of the best walk and wade fly fishing rivers in the province. These rivers flow through the Rocky Mountains and foothills and provide the ultimate wilderness experience.

The Crowsnest and Livingston Rivers, for example, are very productive for rainbow and cutthroat trout that average 12″ to 14″.

Bull trout are also found in these waters, especially in the fall as they migrate to spawn; these aggressive predators can reach 10 pounds plus. There are also a number of other “secret” rivers in the area that can also be very productive.

These crystal clear rivers are cold, full of boulders, overhanging trees, and subsurface structures providing excellent habitat for trout. The towering spruce trees along the banks provide breathtaking views at every bend, with the Rockies as the backdrop. Dry flies are the method of choice. However, weather depending, hatches and time of year, nymphing and streamers can be more productive.

Combine a Walk and Wade on one of these fantastic streams with your Bow River float trip for an unforgettable holiday.
